From October 23 to November 28, 2015, the Laurence Esnol Gallery will be showing Frénésie du silence, Eric ANTOINE’s newest photography project. For the third annual exhibition of his work, the gallery presents photographs produced using the wet collodion process. More than 40 new ambrotypes will be displayed at 22 rue Bonaparte.
After dedicating 5 years of his life to exploring his immediate surroundings, Eric ANTOINE now turns his attention to new horizons, both physical and spiritual. Setting his large format camera in different natural landscapes, he has shifted from an introspective standpoint to a broader exploration of existence.
Eric ANTOINE’s Frénésie du silence has a less dramatic approach than his previous exhibitions. Instead, the photographer settles to observe the little joys and anxieties of our everyday lives. Emulating his favourite filmmakers, he takes pleasure in imagining different series with the same actors. Whilst Eric ANTOINE continues the photography of his close environment in images both fragmentary and enigmatic there is a section of Frénésie du silence which unveils a series of landscapes, a new departure bright and pure, simultaneously silent and chaotic.
In parallel with the exhibition, Eric ANTOINE will publish ensemble seul, a book covering 5 years of his work and conceived as a work of art in itself. 1000 copies will be published with a printing quality true to the ambrotypes of the artist.
A self-taught artist, Eric ANTOINE worked as an international press photographer for 15 years before turning towards a contemporary use of ancient photographic techniques. He pursues a physical approach to photography, through the wet collodion technique and his self-made frames. Through an exacting perfection of this pictorial yet delicate process, he is able to create an intimate yet universal body of art.
The Laurence Esnol Gallery will present Frénésie du silence as part of the Photo Saint-Germain Festival 2015, from November 7 to November 22.
